New Members of The Rotary Club of Cumbernauld

20th August 2008    
  President Alex Mearns inducts local business man Owen O’Brien as the newest recruit to the thriving Rotary Club of Cumbernauld. Owen lives in Balloch with his wife Linda and his two daughters and is the Operations Director of Scottish Limousines.  He will immediately take an interest in the clubs schools programme which provides water purification and emergency and shelter boxes for areas of the world affected by natural disasters as part of Rotary’s humanitarian work

  Robert Mclachlan (local Optician) and Vice President of The Rotary Club of Cumbernauld is seen here welcoming new member Roy Mitchell at his induction in to the club. Following the induction ceremony Robert said “It is always a great pleasure to bring a new member in to the family of Rotary and it was a particular pleasure for me to induct Roy who we have got to know well as a guest of one of our members. I know that Roy will make an excellent Rotarian and that he in turn will get a great deal of satisfaction from his involvement in the Rotary movement.

  President Alex Mearns is seen here welcoming local man David Morrow to the Rotary Club of Cumbernauld following his induction ceremony at Dullatur Golf Club where the club meets. Commenting today Alex said “We are delighted to welcome David as our third new member since July. I am confident that David will bring a great deal to the club and that he in turn will gain a great deal from his involvement”. An enthusiastic David responded by saying “It is a privilege to become a member of Rotary International an organisation with over 1,200,000 men and women members worldwide and I am looking forward to playing a full part in the clubs service and social activities.

Club President Alex Mearns inducts the four latest recruits to the Rotary Club of Cumbernauld. The Induction of four new members at one time represents a historic first for our club and is indicative of the growing interest in Rotary in our area.

The new Rotarians, pictured with President Alex and their sponsors, are Mervyn Karwot a former CDC employee and a local professional photographer, Angela Moore Head Teacher of Glencryan School, Ros Griffith Engagement Officer with North Lanarkshire Council and Jawahar Handa ENT Consultant in Lanarkshire.

  Cumbernauld Rotary Club President Alex Mearns is seen here welcoming new member Brian Wilson the eighth new Rotarian to join the ranks of this busy club in the last ten months. Brian spent a career in banking holding senior positions around Scotland and northern England before becoming a Training Consultant
