Meetings usually start with dinner,
followed by either a guest speaker or a business discussion.
9th November '05
Carole
McCarthy visited the Club and gave a most interesting and explicate
presentation. Carole is Director of Growing Business with SE Lanarkshire.
Responsible for growing business activity including Account and Client
management, Business Gateway, Business start up, high growth incubation,
inward investment and all products and services related to business.
Member of the Growing Business Policy Group, chair of the Growing Business
Network group and a member of the European Competitiveness and Innovation
Advisory Group. Member of the Board at Coatbridge College.
Following the presentation by Carole McCarthy the Club
met with fellow Rotarians from Linlithgow and Bo'ness in the first round
of the Rotary Plate Quiz.
After a battle throughout and ending with a tied score at the end
the final result came down to a tie breaker. Our guests Linlithgow and
Bo'ness won the night.
A most enjoyable night was had by all.

28th October '05 - Visit to St
Helen's Primary School
On
Friday 28th October members of the Rotary Club took a
demonstration Shelterbox to St Helens and erected the tent within the
assembly hall so that the pupils and teachers could see how their
fundraising efforts were being put to use.Aquabox & Shelterbox co-ordinator, Ray Harding, explained how
the Shelterbox was used and was pleased to receive many questions from the
pupils who clearly understood the importance of the work they had done.

Dr
Allan Jamieson gave a most entertaining and informative talk to
Rotarians and partners when he visited the Club. Allan is Director of the
Forensic Institute and Chair of the Institute of Biology Scottish Council.
Allan also chairs the UK Forensic Toxicology Forum and Standards Committee
of the Forensic Science Society. Allan contributes to the Edinburgh
International books Festival and has been involved with many youth and
charity organizations.

Alan Tait the Golf
Professional at the Westerwood Golf and Country Club Hotel visited
the Club and gave a very interesting and humorous insight into his
"European Tour".
Alan is pictured with President Frank, members of the Club and visitors
from the Rotary Club of Kilsyth.
Sunday 18th September
2005
Sunday the 18th September saw another successful event held by the Club, our Jazz
Lunch at the Westerwood Hotel. The afternoon started with a buffet lunch between
1.00 and 2.00 followed by "Cool Jazz" provided by Bobby Wishart and
Friends from 2.00 through to 4.00. Approximately 90 enjoyed the afternoon and it
was encouraging to see a number of our Rotarian friends from Braids, Kilsyth,
Kirkintilloch and Monklands. During the afternoon a raffle was held. All
proceeds from the day are being forwarded to the Rotary Foundation.

During a most interesting visit to Strathcarron
Hospice, Past President Bob Aird presented a Cheque for £1000 to
Hospice Director and President of Cumbernauld Rotary Frank Clark.
This Money will be used to help refurbish the Relatives Sitting Room
within the Hospice.

Inspector Bob Hope visited
the Club and gave a most interesting talk on the Youth Alcohol Strategy in Cumbernauld.
Inspector Hope outlined the programme which is running over a three year
period.
Falkirk Rotary Club car raffle in aid of Strathcarron Hospice
On Saturday 6th August Cumbernauld Rotarians supporting
there neighbouring Cub Falkirk sold raffle tickets outside the Tesco Superstore
in Cumbernauld Centre in aid of the above project. Over 700 tickets were
sold on the day. Thanks go to the management of Tesco's who allowed the car to
be positioned in the carpark adjacent to the main entrance.
Rotary Club of Cumbernauld
will arrange for Aquaboxes to be sent to provide the means to have emergency - safe and
clean water in the disaster areas.
Rotarians visiting from other Clubs are
recommended
to call in advance of their arrival and check the Club’s
final arrangements for the date of their planned visit with our Secretary.
