bottles, bags, traffic cones and even a wheel barrow from the Pond itself.
Club President Alex Mearns said “this is a great
opportunity for Rotary to work in partnership with colleagues in North

eyes - clear their minds and fill them with pleasant thoughts.
Jennifer highlighted the modern uses of Hypnotherapy –
getting away from the stage presentations which are high in the public mind
- and gave examples of how the ancient processes where finding a place in
modern society. Members asked detailed questions and had a deep discussion
on Hypnotherapy as their personal experiences had effected them.

Cumbernauld Rotarians had their minds stretched back
to earlier times in Cumbernauld – when Ian Shillady a young student
architect who lives in Condorrat and is at Strathclyde University present
his Thesis on “Cumbernauld Town Centre from concept to present day”. It was
fascinating to see and hear a young professional’s analysis of Cumbernauld
Town Centre as many Rotarians present had been involved or had seen the Town
Centre develop over thirty years. This led to many questions and an analysis
of the centre from the audience – Ian was ably thanked by Jim Donnelly for
giving the Club an exciting evening and food for thought.

our friends at Abronhill High School for again identifying such high calibre

which we have collaborated with the school and the feedback from pupils who
have taken part has been excellent. We are also happy to see the school

Members enjoyed the
fellowship of a visit by Kilsyth Rotary Club to Cumbernauld. Plant manager
Donald MacBrayne of Scottish Water gave members a very enjoyable and
educational presentation on the new Deerdykes Composting & Organics
Recycling Facility – which composts 100% green materials including grass
clippings, wood chips and branches. The Cumbernauld plant uses composting as
nature's way of recycling. Over time various microorganisms, including
bacteria and fungi, break down organic matter - resulting in “Pod” a
valuable source of nutrient rich organic compost with a whole host of uses,
from landscaping and turf top dressing to encouraging plant growth – all
useful products considering Cumbernauld’s heavy clay soils. In the first two
years of operation the facility has treated more than 50,000 tonnes of green
and woody materials generated by local authorities’ collections.
The Rotary Club of Cumbernauld
will arrange for Aquaboxes to be sent to provide the means to have emergency - safe and
clean water in the disaster areas.
Rotarians visiting from other Clubs are
recommended
to call in advance of their arrival and check the Club’s
final arrangements for the date of their planned visit with our Secretary.
